Ann Swanson, Board Member
I grew up in the country of Colorado, played the cello in the
Denver Businessman's Orchestra until college, received a B.S.
at Colorado University and married Dave. We moved every two years
with his career at Procter and Gamble, raising four children along
the way. Cincinnati was the final move. I went back to school
in Oxford, OH, Miami University, for a M.S. in botany. My interest
was plant community ecology in the prairies and old-growth forests
of Ohio and Kentucky, and also teaching. Retirement brought us
to Maine where we had summer-vacationed for many years. I have
rediscovered the love for my old childhood cello, studied for
six years with Myles Jordan, play in the Mid-coast Symphony Orchestra,
play in a piano trio and other amateur chamber groups, and have
been active on the boards of the DaPonte String Quartet and the
Damariscotta River Association. I love all sorts of music, I have
a strong appreciation for the efforts and dedication of professional
musicians in keeping alive new music and old musical traditions,
and I consider music outreach and education most important, especially
in today's world.
