Violinist Soovin Kim has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the San Francisco, Baltimore, and Indianapolis Symphonies, and the Orchestra of St. Luke's. He has given recitals at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center and Ravinia. Mr. Kim is a recipient of the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, bestowed on young artists of exceptional gifts at the threshold of major international careers. He has also received an Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Henryk Szeryng Foundation Career Award and won first prize at the Paganini violin competition. In 2008-09 Mr. Kim will tour Europe with pianist Mitsuko Uchida performing Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. He is a member of the Johannes String Quartet and will tour with the Guarneri Quartet. Mr. Kim's CD of Niccolò Paganini's demanding 24 Caprices for solo violin was released in February 2006 and was named Classic FM Magazine's disc of the month. A new CD of Faure's Sonata in A Major and Chausson's Concert for violin, piano, and string quartet with pianist Jeremy Denk and the Jupiter Quartet was released in the summer of 2008. Mr. Kim teaches at Stony Brook University.
