Sheryl Staples Violin
Violinist, Sheryl Staples, was appointed Principal Associate Concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic in 1998. During her tenure in New York, she has been featured with the Philharmonic as soloist in concertos of Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Haydn, Bach and Vivaldi, collaborating with conductors Kurt Masur, Lorin Maazel, Sir Colin Davis and Alan Gilbert. In addition, Ms. Staples has appeared as soloist with over 40 orchestras nationwide including the Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Diego Symphony. A great lover of chamber music, Ms. Staples frequently performs in the New York area including recent collaborations with Emanuel Ax and Yefim Bronfman at the 92nd Street Y and Metropolitan Museum, and nationwide in festivals such as La Jolla Summerfest and the Strings Festival in Steamboat Springs, CO. She has also participated in the Santa Fe, Seattle, Aspen and Bowdoin festivals and this year marks her first appearance at Salt Bay Chamberfest. While on tour with the Philharmonic, Ms. Staples has performed chamber music for Ambassadors in London, Paris, Beijing and Hong Kong. Enjoying and juggling a very full life with percussionist husband, Barry Centanni, and children, Michael and Laura, Ms. Staples makes time to work at Juilliard with students aspiring toward orchestral careers.
